Twitter logoThe Kent Liberal Democrat Group have joined the popular Twitter service at www.twitter.com/kentld as a new way that Kent residents and others can keep in touch with the Lib Dem Group. The Liberal Democrats recently became the official opposition on Kent County Council as they grew to seven members at the County elections and Labour were decimated to just 2 members.

Twitter is a social networking website where people can post messages of up to 140 characters - known as tweets - that can be seen by other users who subscribe to their feed. There are believed to be over 10 million users of Twitter users worldwide.

New Liberal Democrat County Councillor Tim Prater already keeps in touch with Twitter (www.twitter.com/timprater), and is attending a meet-up of Kent Twitter users in Maidstone on Wednesday 10th June. Tim said:

"Twitter is another way that people can engage with us, give us their thoughts, ideas, suggestions and problems. It doesn't replace any other way of talking with people - it adds to them.

"The Liberal Democrats are committed to listening to people, and Twitter gives us another way of doing that, as well as keeping people in touch with what we are doing at County Hall and across Kent."
