Despite opposition from Liberal Democrat councillor Rob Field, the planning application for the redevelopment of the Parkwood Tavern was approved, subject some tough conditions. The Senacre school redevelopment also took a step towards approval, but with strong protection for local residents. Rob said "I will keep fighting to get the best deal for local people".

On the Parkwood Tavern site, improved landscaping and screening must now be provided, to reduce impact on nearby houses. The developer will agree a contribution towards the cost of local health care facilities and open spaces as well as investigating the use of a "living roof" on the new buildings.

Park Wood will be the priority for spending money that the Senacre developer will donate to improve or build sports facilities. Money will be spent here before being used in Shepway or elsewhere.
