Tory-run councils slashing vital services - Goldsworthy

11.35.17am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 12th Aug 2009

Julia Goldsworthy MP

Commenting on reports that leading Tory councils are slashing public spending on services such as parks, libraries and street cleaning, Liberal Democrat Shadow Local Government Secretary, Julia Goldsworthy said:

"No sooner has George Osborne pledged that a Tory government could make savings without front-line service cuts, than Tory-run councils are already planning to slash vital services

"Rather than doing 'more with less', this is the classic Tory tactic of squeezing local services and ducking hard choices at the top."
