Trudy Dean Welcomes Abandonment of Larkfield Super-Depot

1.35.00pm GMT Thu 26th Nov 2009

Kent County Councillor for Larkfield Trudy Dean has welcomed the news that plans for a highways super-depot in Larkfield have been abandoned by Kent County Council (KCC).

Following the collapse of plans to build the depot in Wrotham, KCC was looking at a new site on the former Reeds Paperworks in the New Hythe area of Larkfield. KCC has now confirmed that it is to build on its current site at Doubleday House, Aylesford instead.

Trudy said:

"I am pleased that the threat of more lorries on Leybourne Way and New Hythe Lane has been dropped. The demand for the super-depot arose from KCC's deal with Jacobs Babtie and Ringway for staff of these companies to share offices with KCC. I have never favoured this "cosy" arrangement and I hope the current budget discussions will include some changes as I believe the County Council has been getting a bad deal."
