Fed up with receiving junk mail/calls? Rather than recycling or sending to landfill stop getting it in the first place, by registering your details to stop unwanted addressed post and telephone calls. You can also register with Royal Mail to stop them delivering unaddressed 'junk' mail.

Our Forecasting Centre, which we run with the Met Office, has told us there is a risk of coastal and river flooding in Kent over the next few days as a result of predicted heavy rainfall. Rising spring tides and rain falling on already saturated land could result in localised flooding. We wanted to advise you of that and let you know what we, and others, are doing.

The campaign to Keep Full Maternity at Maidstone Hospital has received a welcome and unexpected boost. Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidates for Faversham and Mid Kent and for Maidstone, Dave Naghi and Peter Carroll, met with the Secretary of State for Health, the Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP. An unscheduled meeting took place outside the Department of Health in Whitehall when Dave and Peter were handing in letters from over 3,000 local people opposing the downgrade.

Lib Dems at Kent County Hall have called for all of KCC's £50million roadworks programme to be put out to competition from local firms. Currently much of KCC's £50 million annual spending on roads goes to their partner contractors Ringway without open competition.

72 households in the 'Bird Blocks' near the Park Wood parade will be receiving new windows following a campaign on their behalf by local Lib Dem Councillor Daniel Moriarty. The windows in many of the flats were no longer in an acceptable condition, with warped frames causing a constant draft in residents' homes.

Lib Dems at County Hall have welcomed the decision to pull the plug on KCC's controversial KentTV broadband channel. Conservative Council Leader Paul Carter has announced that the contract would end due to the "changed economic climate". But Trudy Dean, Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, said the channel had cost nearly £2 million pounds and should never have been set up using taxpayers money.

Trudy Dean, Leader of the Lib Dem Group at Kent County Council, has called on Conservative Leader Paul Carter to retract his statement that the KCC Chief Executive's contract was extended as the result of a unanimous cross party vote involving Lib Dem and Labour Cllrs in 2006.

It is with regret that we are canceling the SE spring conference on Saturday 6th February. We had hoped that it would be early enough in the year not to conflict with campaigning for the General Election however this has not proved to be the case. Kent Lib Dem County Councillor Malcolm Robertson has written to Kent County Council's Director of Environment, Highways and Waste, Mike Austerberry, demanding a better response to winter road clearing in future. Cllr Robertson praised the "herculean" efforts of KCC staff, but called for more resources, planning and joint working with districts to ensure roads and pavements are cleared more effectively in future.

" In Spring KCC was criticised by the Audit Commission for being careless with £50 million of tax payers money in Icelandic banks. In July they awarded councillors an 8% increase in allowances whilst limiting staff to 1%. In the last month residents have been infuriated by KCC's failure to clear roads and pavements of lethal snow and ice. They will have to work very hard indeed to convince any tax payer that there should be any increase in Council Tax next year at all."

There is just over a month to the South East Region Liberal Democrats' Spring conference on Saturday 6th February in Guildford, Surrey. Confirmed speakers are Simon Hughes, Baroness Northover, Sharon Bowles, Catherine Bearder, Norman Baker and Chris Fox. There will also be training sessions available to assist with campaigning for the general election.
