Clean Sweep Campaign Launched

Maidstone's biggest Clean Sweep campaign has started. Over six weeks local volunteers, Councillors and Council officers are clearing litter from our borough.

As promised, the Lib Dems on Maidstone Borough Council have reversed Tory plans. A weekly rubbish collection is retained AND recycling is dramatically increased. The decision made by the Maidstone Tories last Spring to slash the rubbish collection to a fortnightly service outraged the public. The local press and Lib Dem postbags were inundated with letters of protest.

Tough conditions imposed on developments

Despite opposition from Liberal Democrat councillor Rob Field, the planning application for the redevelopment of the Parkwood Tavern was approved, subject some tough conditions. The Senacre school redevelopment also took a step towards approval, but with strong protection for local residents. Rob said "I will keep fighting to get the best deal for local people".
